Man to Man Volunteer Profile

In support of the American Cancer Society's 2015 challenge goals to the nation to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families, the American Cancer Society is working to update our database to accurately identify all of the Man to Man volunteers in California, and clarify your specific roles:
  • Making 1-on-1 visits
  • Facilitating groups
  • Community outreach/education
  • Legislative advocacy
Particularly for those volunteers who are willing to provide peer support visits (which are often by phone), it is important for us to know as much about you as we can in order to better match you (by treatment, age, ethnicity, language, marital status, etc.) with newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients. This is why we are asking all of our Man to Man Volunteers and Coordinators to update their information by completing the new Man to Man Volunteer Profile.

Man to Man e-Newsletter

In an effort to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families and to help people facing the disease get well, the American Cancer Society provides up-to-date information for men with prostate cancer who are newly diagnosed, currently in treatment, or in recovery through its Man to Man News. This six-page newsletter is offered three times a year, distributed through local and regional ACS offices. See recent issues below.

m2mimage-1Man to Man News - 2012 I

Issue 1, 2012, includes an article about managing pain, news of combination hormone therapy with radiation for early stage prostate cancer, and a description of the second edition of the American Cancer Society Complete Guide to Family Caregiving . Other articles explain what to expect after a prostatectomy, how age and health may factor into the decision about how aggressively to treat prostate cancer, and how American Cancer Society online tools can help patients find the information and support they need during cancer diagnosis and treatment. Each issue also features an inspirational story from a prostate cancer survivor.
